Make Your Backyard A Natural Sanctuary thumbnail

Are you someone who is looking for a new way to add charm and beauty to your garden? One way to make sure that your garden is eye catching and lovely is to make nature do some of the work for you. Attract living animals like butterflies, bees and hummingbirds to your garden and allow them to beautify your home.

Bird Baths

When you want to make sure that you are taking care of animals during the hot summer months, think about getting a bird bath. A bird bath is a great choice when you want to add some life to your garden, but you should take pains to make sure that the water is recycled regularly. Still and stagnant water is something that can attract mosquitoes, so make sure that the water is replaced every day or that it has a contained pump that will do it for you.

Consider Pollinator Friendly Flowers

When you go to plant your garden, remember that you are not always looking for the showiest blooms. Instead, take a moment to think about the blossoms that will bring in the pollinators. Bees and butterflies are both drawn to certain flowers, and many of them are quite lovely. Some examples of plants that are great to plant for pollinators include clematis, dahlias, foxgloves, bee balm and hyacinth. There is also anecdotal evidence that states that hummingbirds are drawn to red flowers.

Hummingbird Feeder

A hanging hummingbird feeder is something that can drawn hummingbirds to your home very quickly. Once they have figured out that they can get the sugar water that they need from your home, they will be much more apt to return over time. A red feeder is something that draws them. If you want to make sure that small animals do not knock the feeder down for its sugar, hang it from the eaves of your house or from a low overhanging bough.

Local Plants

To make sure that your garden is hospitable to the local wildlife, choose local plants. Skip the invasives and ornamentals and instead concentrate on plants that grow in the area. This is something that can make your garden much hardier over all. If you have any questions about which plants are local, contact your local nursery to get started. Local plants are also going to be significantly more resistant to disease, allowing you to create a garden that is hardy even when the weather is poor.

When you are invested in making sure that your garden has a little life in it, work on attracting some of the more lovely wildlife creatures. It takes just a little investment before your garden is a profusion of color and motion.
