Mechanically stabilized Earth is constructed of alternating layers of compacted backfill and soil reinforcement elements which are attached to a wall facing. The soil reinforcements are secured by friction in the way of alternating layers of backfill. The wall facing of a typical mechanically stabilized earth structure is usually thin, with a majority of the construction lying within the earth.
